Going into my second week of this internship I was put to the test, Kyle had me work with college soccer players on my own both females. He told me to write up a workout plan for them, while having me do the details. For instance I had them first do ladder work, working agility and then having me pick the exact drills the athletes were to do. It was great, I loved the freedom I got right away to work with the athletes after a week of shadowing. This helped me become much more comfortable coaching and stepping outside my comfort zone, doing what I love. I was then assigned to work with a high schooler who plays baseball, with him Kyle had provided the first sets of lifts while I coached the athlete and helped with his form. Kyle would then make this a learning opportunity where he would ask me what lift I thought the baseball player should do next. I had him do a push and pull sequence, and with his sport being baseball I had him specifically work on his arm/back. At the end Kyle gave us a paper (shown in my first blog post) call Functional Movement Spectrum and is based on the workout you would make specific to the athlete based on specific areas. One for instance is their environment and whether or not that lift would be non-functional or functional. I thought this was overall a great week and I am excited to learn much more.
